GUIDED EXCURSIONS BY THE
GUIDES
June 14 - September 25, 2010
The guides offer you daily full-day excursions and shorter tours
to different places in the area. Excursions and evening tours
are guided in Swedish but we will give regularly summaries in English.
You sign up to our guided activities in the station's lobby.
The excursions are on request. If an excursion has three entries
or more, we’ll do that one the next day. In the evening the
day before, the chosen activity will be announced.
Snurrijokk - In to the wild
On the north shore of lake Torneträsk, one finds a remaining wilderness. A spectacular flora adds extra flavour to this trek. At the Snurrijokk hut we enjoy our brought lunch and the breathtaking scenery. We stroll back to the lake, enjoying the sound of silence. Finally, the boat trip across the beautiful lake will really make your day!

Panorama Trekking
Looking for relaxation and stunning views? We use the chair-lift up to the Panorama Café, where we start with some coffee before heading up the mountain. We gently stroll up to Abisko’s best panoramic peak, Nuolja, while harmonizing with nature. After the visit at the peak we hike down to Björkliden and enjoy the view and calmness. We finish the tour by taking the train back to Abisko.
Included in the price: Guide, chair-lift ticket, coffee and cookie, train ticket.

Rombak - Mountains and Fjords
During this day we travel from the sub alpine region along the Navvy road, through the boreal forest, down to the fjord in Rombaksbotn. The tour is filled with impressive views and fresh ocean air. The grand finale will be the boat trip on the fjord towards Narvik. On board the boat we are served locally fished shrimps and you can buy refreshing beverages to enhance the experience.

Stordalen - Relaxing Fishing
Do you dream of catching the great grayling or are you just looking for a relaxing day in the outdoors? The best fishing in this area is at Stordalen. At the lake, exciting fishing is enhanced by the tranquillity of the mountains. We finish off by preparing the catch of the day over an open fire.

Caving Adventure - Welcome to the underground
Step into the mountain and discover winding passages and whirling streams! One of the longest caves in Sweden is hidden near Abisko. With headlamps as the only light source, we explore this wonder world of halls, narrow passages and ancient formations created by nature’s powers. Prepare yourself for an extraordinary experience!

Kärkevagge - A fabulous valley
In the Kärkevagge Valley, the high alpine environment, with its huge mountain faces, giant boulders and rocks, meets the gentle green alpine meadows. The result is a fairytale landscape and an extraordinary place for hiking. Trollsjön, the clearest lake in Sweden, is located in the heart of this unique valley. This trek is a must for all Abisko visitors!

Luopakte - Challenge with a view
Do you enjoy great scenery and a good workout? This beautiful and straightforward hike takes you to the summit of Luopakte. The climb is steep and the panoramic view from the top is stunning. Luopakte is a sacred place for the Sami, an old sacrificial ground. Join us on this hike where we play a bit harder!

The Sami Camp - unique culture
Come to The Sami Camp, an exhibition displaying how the Sami lived in the late-19th century. The camp is a reconstruction of a spring and fall residence from a time when the Sami lived as nomads. After a tour around the camp, we gather around the fire in the hut, sip coffee and eat reindeer meat while discussing the Sami culture.

The secret room of Abisko - Local History X
Let’s travel hundred years back in history. Together we will find that the modern history of Abisko has been strongly influenced by railway workers, young soldiers and famous writers.
During this walk you will experience history, visit both known and unknown environments in the area.
Of course we will make a visit to Abisko Border Defence Museum and the Navvy Museum.
